Hello Kiddies,

Don't you love hearing those words? It's Shutdown 2014 and we had a breakdown to go with it. But that's what makes it fun, right?
In theory. The laptop has been replaced thanks to catelynn, and my state of mind has rebounded somewhat.
We went to TESFest, and had a good time. I think con drop, a really busy work week, plus other stresses weighing on my mind created the perfect storm of suck that resulted in the previous locked entry. Is everything *all better*? No, but we're getting there. Sometimes you just have to release the pressure valve. Was it a cry for help? Sure. But if you don't speak up, no one can help you. Thanks to all who continue to step up. Rest assured, we ain't goin' nowhere kids. ;) I think that sentiment is best expressed by a fellow Queens resident.

Hello Kiddies,

The humidity and pressure is up here in the HSB, and June is merrily marching along. There's some interesting thoughts to ponder on both here and there, and I need to do some proper updating. I made my Dad online accounts he'll probably never use but at least he has access to email now like every other human on the planet. Of course who's going to end up checking it for him? :)

No video today, but here's some fun media, a caricature portrait of me as a vampire drawn at Wicked Faire! Stay cool kids!

Hello Kiddies,

As Eric Draven once said, It can't rain all the time. Even though it did pour mightily today. We'll interrupt the stream of suck for some good stuff. I'm not normally a fan of country music, but here's a gem from last night's CMT Awards. Eric Church brought Lzzy Hale to join him on his performance that was one of the big highlights of the evening.

After a Grammy win, and a few other high profile appearances, I hope that this helps bring Halestorm some more of the mainstream respect they deserve, and Lzzy tells us that the best is yet to come.

Hello Kiddies,

Our last entry was just a mild emotional fart, but I do appreciate the comments and love. Honestly, there's so much going on, I don't know where to start. It seems that as soon as I put out one fire there's another and another, plus cleaning up the charred remains of the ones I didn't get to. Hence why I'm 'burnt out' most of the time. Whatever downtime I do have is just a temporary collapse from exhaustion until the fire alarm goes off again. Either that or when I smell smoke.

I occasionally allow myself a few moments of idle indulgences only to find myself behind again, and it being all that much harder to catch up. Honestly, it's very tempting to just throw in the towel and let everything burn. Of course we won't because hey that would suck. I actually feel more optimistic than this is sounding, but I'm still bloody exhausted. Eventually something has to give. I hope it isn't me.

As is custom when I'm feeling less than stellar, I've been playing a lot of really aggressive hard rock lately. This came up the other day on shuffle and Dee nails it as usual. We even gave him the icon this time around.

Hello Kiddies,

Happy Mother's Day to the Moms and those who love them. :) Of course I miss Mommy, but I won't dwell on that, just think happy thoughts of our time. To that end, here are a few shots prevously unshared on this medium.

And this was a particular fave of my Mom's. Both the Italian and English versions. Domenico was a bit more suave than Tony Orlando so we'll give him the nod. :)

Hello Kiddies,

Here we wander weak and weary once more. I could probably write a thesis on the series of tragicomic events that have filled my life recently. That is, if anyone wanted to hear them.
They would include the pain of addiction and loss that still haunts us. Instead, we'll indulge some melodrama through music as we are apt to do.

This number blew me away for obvious reasons. Lzzy Hale certainly brings her magnificent voice to a beautiful song. I got Lindsey Sterling's record not long after hearing this and it's been on perpetual repeat. Most of it is instrumental of course, but oddly enough it's both intense and soothing and has gotten through a series of rough days. We might be shattered, but we ain't broken yet. Stay tuned.

Hello Kiddies,

Aside from spew and foo, it's been a slow news week here in the HSB. Wrestlemania came and went and while fun, was a tad underwhelming compared to recent years. Who knew that the story would unfold afterwards.

After being on at best, frosty relations with the WWE, The Ultimate Warrior decided to bury the hatchet with Vince and co, and take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame.

It was nice to see him in the company of all time greats like Bruno, Andre, Hulk, and Rock.

On Saturday night, April 6th, Warrior was inducted into the HOF, the night before Wrestlemania. The day following WM, Warrior made his first appearance on Monday Night RAW since 1996 and gave a heartfelt speech announcing his role as the WWE's Goodwill Embassador.

The next day at 54 years old, Warrior succumbed to a massive heart attack and died. I guess he did what he had to do. It was nice to see him in a WWE ring one last time and to see the company honor one of it's greatest.

I only saw the Warrior wrestle live a few times, most notably at SummerSlam91, and while he wasn't an all time fave of mine, he was fun to watch.

Rest in Peace Mr. Hellwig, and thanks for the inspiration.

Hello Kiddies,

Yesterday's bit of melodramatic prose left some of you concerned and understandably so. Is it true that I'm not in a good place right now? Yes. Is most of it my own doing? Yes. Can I get myself out of it? Yes.

While on Facebook, I came across the page of author Elizabeth Gilbert, where there was a blog post with something very poignant, and accurate about the state of ruin.

"Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation."

It is here. The culmination of our failure. No, it's not the end. Just the point where realize not that we can't go on, but that we will, just different than before. The house of cards has collapsed. All of our mistakes, misfortunes, poor choices, and poor luck have culminated in this moment.

The bread will run out, the circus will end, and we will liquidate the remainder of our former existence. We then sit in our squalor and go forth in our daily routine until the day our time runs out.

Welcome to ruin.

Hello Kiddies,

As we've mentioned here before, it's been a rough month. Bitterly cold days, brutally long days, strife and stress, all of which led to some really soul crushing depression. Of course, we've been looking at today.
A year ago, I had just moved into this apartment. We were starting to get settled in, and it was a pretty positive and optimistic time. I always liked the promise of early Spring. The day I got the call my Mom was in the hospital, I remember it being like a blur. Then barely a few days later, she was gone. We were all there when they turned off life support and I watched the strongest person I had known in my life slip away. And that was it.

What to say? Not much. For the past few weeks, I've been reaching out to folks, for no reason immediately apparent, just to say that I loved them. To say they were on my mind. Because you never know if you won't have the chance. I don't remember the last time I spoke to Mom before that, it was probably something trivial and I thought annoying at the time.
If you love someone, tell them. Hold them close, share a thought, a smile, or something else. My Mom was fond of saying that we don't get a guarantee in life and that's very true.

If you're reading this and I never told you, or told you a hundred times, I love you and thanks for being here. I miss you Mommy, and I am glad you were there just the same.

Rest in Peace Mom, 4/20/39 - 3/29/13

Hello Kiddies,

I don't have that interesting a life these days, eventful at times perhaps, but not interesting. Hence the only intermittent spewing. Howver we can document a few things that will hopefully in ten year's time be irrelevant.

Hello Kiddies,

I went to this show last night and it was actually really really good, and hilariously funny. Too many good stories to share here and do justice.

Really looking forward to the DVD. Pledge now. :)

Hello Kiddies,

As the mid-February chill rages on, illness and ickyness have overwhelmed us here in the HSB. However, to lighten up the mood and provide signal boost to some wonderful friends' beloved projects, here are a few things that you can donate time or money to if you have any extra of either.

More Shibari you Can Use - Book project by Lee Harrington

Scholarships for the Transcending Boundaries Conference

Cinekink's 10th Anniversary

And if none of those get your blood er, flowing, then get yourself or someone you love a pair of awesome Period Panties!

In other things yours truly can heartily endorse, Jeff Mach's Wicked Faire and NecroComic Con (which rumor has it may even include an elusive Pete sighting!), and Lzzy Hale's Scissor Happy Clothing Line.

Incidentally, for those with harder hearts, Halestorm is having their Anti-Valentine's Day sale. Because love bites! :)

With that, here's today's video, New Halestorm bitches! :)

Hello Kiddies,

We've gone from January to February in the HSB with a deep freeze and all the stress it blows in with it, and the less said about that the better. We've been listening to a lot of reggae to keep ourselves in a sunny state of mind, and of course it being Bob Marley week. Bob would have celebrated his 69th birthday on February 6th.

Earlier this week one of our other musical heroes followed Bob home to Zion, ironically enough, a man who shared his birthday.

William 'Bunny Rugs' Clarke, singer for the Third World band, passed away this week at 65 years strong of leukemia. I loved those guys. TW was one of the first reggae bands I discovered, and I fell in love with them the first time I heard their music. I got a chance to see them live in the mid-90's with the classic line up still intact.
Like the Jamaican folk hero Paul Bogle referenced in their legendary hit '96 Degrees in the Shade', Bunny Rugs will truly never die.

Hello Kiddies,

Today is a special anniversary here in the HSB.

Before the Wars, before the Manias, before the Network. Before The Rock, Stone Cold, Shawn Michaels and everyone else who came after. There was one man, who on one cold winter day, laid the path to history.

January 23, 1984

The Winner of this bout, and NEW World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion, THE INCREDIBLE HULK HOGAN!!

As Gorilla Monsoon would say at ringside, "Hulkamania is here!"

Hello Kiddies!

We never got around to a proper New Year's post, but this is the best damn news we've heard in a LONG TIME!!

45 Years after it's debut, and just in time for the Caped Crusader's 75th Birthday, the 1966 Batman TV show will have an official DVD release.

While some purists decry the campy nature of the show, this was one of the most important moments in comic book and TV history. The show introduced millions of people to the character(myself included) and to comics years after its original run.
You know, after the gritty portrayals in the most recent round of films, I'm glad to see this coming out and letting a new generation enjoy what's arguably one of the most iconic interpretations of this classic character.

To The Batpoles!! :)
